Principal's Message

Rail Road Flat School is the center of the community and it has served the area for over 100 years. The school motto is "The Little School That Can." Parents, students, staff, and community members work as a team to provide a variety of learning and enrichment opportunities for students.

The community is rural and isolated and many of our students come from economically challenged families and move frequently. Rail Road Flat Elementary provides a small community-oriented program that fosters a sense of consistency for students who may not have much stability. Staff work together to develop the talents of each child. William Spady, a pioneer of performance-based education reform made the following statement: "All Students can learn and succeed, but not on the same day in the same way." The size of the school allows the staff to develop stronger connections with each individual student and identify and address specific areas of need accordingly.

Rail Road Flat elementary believes a great school starts with vision, sets high standards, builds on each child's strengths, and celebrates every success.  This means recognizing each child's strengths, helping families overcome adversity, developing the skills and habits needed for success, and never settling for mediocrity.
